Paint Colors for the Baby Room

I started this post before we painted to discuss all my color options. The time for consideration was swiftly approaching and I had to decide before I could hash it out here on my blog. So now I will just share a quick history of the decision making and some photos of the empty, painted room.

First, some rambling:
I was leaning towards grey walls, either medium/pale or perhaps a bit darker. I struggled the most because I really like the look of all light and neutral colors, but I also love contrast. Since we will be having almost all white furniture, a darker grey would provide more contrast. I also picked up 3 brand new paint cans at a garage sale for $2 each. They are each shades of grey. I had to look them up on Sherwin Williams but here are some swatches from their site:

I liked them, especially “Grizzle Grey” but I was a little worried they would be too dark. While on the Sherwin Williams website I kept drifting to shades that were closer to the medium grey I envisioned. The one I kept going back to was “Earl Grey.” I wanted to test it on the wall first, so I made a trip to Sherwin Williams a couple days before the scheduled painting day so I could get a sample. Unfortunately, I let myself get distracted by all the other shades and questioned my decision, so I bought 2 grey samples to try on the wall. I should have stuck with my gut, because the other color I tried was still too dark. Earl Grey it was!!!

I have to say, with all the walls painted now I am so happy I went with it! It is the perfect middle grey. It might be a bit on the dark side, which I actually kind of wanted. The contrast of the walls with the white trim and doors looks so awesome already and I can’t wait to see how the crib and other furniture looks up against it. I also intend to use a couple of the other, darker paint sample quarts to paint some frames I picked up at a garage sale a few weeks ago.

Here are some photos I took of the room while it was still in it’s original color and all set to be painted.

Here are a couple photos with the grey walls right after, with the tape still on and a couple once it had been removed.

And here is a walk through video I made. The quality is so-so and it’s probably a little boring but if you are bored enough to watch, here you are. :)

  1. Did I see a spot on the upper wall by the ceiling that I missed? Lol…no just kidding. I’m excited to see it with the white furniture and yellow touches…and with the baby in it!!!!!
